  3. Can I create email accounts, databases, ftp accounts and subdomains on addon domains?
No. You can't create separate databases, ftp accounts and subdomains on addon domains because "addon domain" is simply a pointer to sub directory of main website "public_html" folder.

However email accounts can be created on addon domains. You can still use FTP, databases from the main account for your addon domains.

  9. What does it mean to "register" a domain name?
The Internet domain name system (DNS) consists of a directory, organized hierarchically, of all the domain names and their corresponding computers registered to particular companies and persons using the Internet. When you register a domain name, it will be associated with the computer on the Internet you designate during the period the registration is in effect.

  10. What is a domain name?
A domain name is the essence of your company's or personal online identity. It is the address your customers use to find information about your products and services on the web.

Domain names allow Internet users to type in a name, such as schnaz.com, to identify a numeric Internet Protocol (IP) address such as 67.15.58.30. The purpose of domain names is to allow users connected to the Internet the ability to find web sites without having to memorize the long, numerical (IP) addresses that actually locate the computers or servers on the Internet.

Your default filename is index.html or index.htm page. So you can reach your site instead of typing the whole www.yourname.com/index.html, you can just type www.yourname.com on your browser.

However, if you developed sites using PHP or Perl you can use index.php or index.php3, index.cgi are also supported.

Please make sure you DO NOT upload your hompage, index.html or index.htm in uppercase for example like Index.html or Index.htm or INDEX.HTML. Please make sure your homepage index file is in lowecase.

  13. What is DNS propagation?
DNS propagation is the process by which the computers on the Internet update their records to reflect new Domain Names and site names. Once your Domain Name has been propagated throughout the Internet, your Domain Name can be accessed. The process can take from 24-72 hours.

The Domain Name System is a global network of servers that translate host names into IP addresses. Most DNS servers are UNIX machines running BIND (Berkely Internet Name Domain) software; other platforms and software are available. The software is composed of two elements: the name server and a resolver. The name server responds to browser requests by supplying name-to-address conversions. This information is cached (saved for a predefined period of time). When/if it doesn’t know the answer, the resolver will ask another name server for the information. It continues to look up the ‘tree’ of name servers until it finds a name server that knows the answer. Occasionally browsers can timeout waiting for this process even when the propagation has taken place.

  15. What is involved in registering a domain name ?
To register a domain name, you will be asked to provide the registrar you select with the various contact and technical information that makes up the registration. The registrar will then keep records of the contact information and submit the technical information to a central directory known as the "registry."

This registry provides other computers on the Internet the information necessary to send you e-mail or to find your web site. You will also be required to enter a registration contract with the registrar, which sets forth the terms under which your registration is accepted and will be maintained.

  16. When I try to access my site it says:
This is caused by many reasons. Most of the common reasons are listed below, it has to be due to one or more of the following:

1: Error is caused by not having a home page file inside of your www or public_html directory. Once you upload your homepage file into this directory, the error message will go away and your new home page will load. Our servers recognize a number of file names as home pages: the most common ones are index.html and index.htm.

    2. The permissions of your public_html directory are not correct. The right permissions are Unix 755.

    3. You may have uploaded your hompage, index.html or index.htm in uppercase for example like Index.html. Please make sure your homepage index file is in lowecase.

  17. Will my name and contact information be publicly available?
Yes. Information about who is responsible for domain names is publicly available to allow rapid resolution of technical problems and to permit enforcement of consumer protection, trademark, and other laws.

The registrar will make this information available to the public on a "Whois" site.
